Question 8.1 liter Ls1?

I have a question, Is there anyway to make an Ls1 with a 8.1 truck block? I know people are doing it with 6.0 blocks. Would it be possible?

8.1 truck block is from a different branch of the tree, it's more related to the old 454ci engine.

Yeah I saw that 454 Ls1 thing too. Not sure it it's true, but I've heard rumors that those motors aren't holding up.

To me, a 454 is too much for a LS1. Its big block cubes, with small block heads. Anything over a 440ci in an LS1 and you start to run out of head, unless your running a set of C5-R's. But an 8.1 LS1 based motor would make the viper owners **** thier pants.

That would make me nervous because I don't think it would hold for very long. Very cool idea though.

While we are on the subject, how much would a C5R block run, and where could you get it from?

C5R's run from 5-6K. I think most of the engine building sponsors can get them for you

I think that GM had an experimental 471" motor in that retro Penske Camaro. 4.200" bore and the Lunati 4.250" crank. Don't think it worked very well, and may not have lived at all.

I have that article on the 454 ls1 3rd gen. it was actually a 452ci motor. it did use a c5-r block, but the only difference between that and a normal ls1 block is the siamesed cylinders. so, if you resleeve the ls1 block you could get 452cid, but ive never really heard about the motors longevity, but id imagine they wouldnt make it if it doesnt work. thats just my thought though...

There's a good deal on a C5R block in the classified section.

I got my C5r block directly from scoggin-dickey for $6,300.00 plus shipping. Right now on the corvette forum there is a GM buick deler selling the C5r blocks brand new for $6,100.00 shipped!

I dont think that the 454 CI LS1 running out of head is as much of a problem as piston speed.
