Default Lower Half

It was mentioned in a thread one key to keeping oil pressure at a good pressure would be to keep the lower half of the engine clean. What are some tips to doing this? How can one go about cleaning it if needed? Thanks

Here is the quote that led me to post what I said up top. Maybe my wording is incorrect. I am not too familiar with the bottom half of the engine, or most of the internals. Thats why I am here trying to learn.

"Anyway the pickup in you pan is picking up unfiltered oil its has to chew its way through the pump and then to the filter. I do my own pumps and there is no majic. Just clean oil and a clean bottom end."

That was in a post about aftermarket and ported oil pumps and maintaing proper pressure. Maybe someone can tell me what exactly that means/requires?
