Default Help build me a setup(346 LS1)

I plan on ordering within the next day or two. My goal is 400 rwhp through a 9in. The car is a 6spd. I have a set of LS2 heads(243) that I will throw on the car to give it a better chance of reaching the goal. I'm looking to go for something like a 228/232 cam. Any recommendations? The car is daily driving and I want it to drive as close to stock as possible(I understand it's mostly in the tune, but still I want a friendly cam). With the 243 heads, what size cam can I go with before I start worrying about PTV issues? I've looked into the 228R cam, and I'm just not sure if it will be able to give me the hp I'm looking for through a 9in. Any opinions?

theyrre have been cars hitting 10s with the 228 cam. its mostly in the intake/ head combo, i see your cars a 99 so it doesnt have the ls6 intake unless u put one on. so def get that, the 228, and maybe a little mill on the heads to bump compression, and some portwork and u will be there easiy, and drive A+

forgot to mention that an 02 motor is going in the car. I'm building it on a stand and then dropping it in.

Sounds exactly like a cam I am looking to run. How much power would I lose down low running a 114+4? I do want a little lope at idle, nothing crazy, I just want people to know there is a "small" cam there. Also, I really didn't want to touch the heads, this is a budget build and the 243's have been sitting in my garage for a few months so they aren't costing me anything.

Compression is you friend in making power.
~ 62cc will give you ~11:1, friendly with any fuel and will raise cylinder pressures to make the power you seek.
The 228/232 will idle nice and with 2* overlap it will be noticeable as being cammed (not stock)

On your heads you'll need springs anyways and taking the heads to the shop you can knock off 2 birds with one stone. Mill and setup the springs at proper height (should not be more than 100>130 buckaroos.)

Now you would have properly assembled heads.

The cam specs are (if you are interested):

Comp Cam lobes:

intake # 3724R
Exhaust # 3726R
114 LSA
110 ICL

With Ls7 lifters and stock rockers, what size pushrods would you recommend?

That you will have to measure for best results. That part is crutial for proper valvetrain operation.
P-rod checker tool is only like $20
