Default Crank reluctor wheel failure?

Anyone ever have one fail. If so, how did you determine it was bad before engine disassembly? I have one that I think is bad.

I have heard of them being installed wrong. a good engine building will tack weld them so they wont slip.

They can be installed in the wrong position or have to much run-out. Typically if there is an issue, the vehicle will have a crank position code but I have seen them where you have to chase the problem down.

well the problem does happen ,,,, i just tore down the engine after finding out that the balck half of the 24tooth reluctor wheel seperated from the front half ( basically i had it free spining in there)

it happened mid run and the engine just shut off. tried to crank it and it just would back fire and pop. did the same thing after a cam and crank sensor swap
