Default What would you do? Engine block machining issue

I have a 2007 LQ4 block at the machine shop right now. I bought it used with some minor (or so I thought) pitting in two cylinder walls, but otherwise in great shape.

After cleanup and removal of plugs, bearings, etc the machinist bored the first cylinder and determined that 4.030 was not going to be a large enough overbore to clean up the cylinder wall and that it would most likely require an additional .015 to .020 to get it right.

So my question is this:

Do I have him bore it to 4.060, buy some bigger pistons and pray that the walls aren't too thin?

or

Do I use this one as a coffee table on my back porch a'la Top Gear and buy another older block that a friend is trying to sell that would require me to buy another set of head bolts because the bolts I have are 2004+ style?

or

Do I have him overbore it just enough to clean the cylinder walls and buy a set of overpriced custom pistons/rings to fit?

or

<Insert brilliant suggestion here - preferably one that doesn't include spending an extra $2K on an LSX block...haha>

Help me out guys, I'm a little frustrated and discouraged at the moment.

What are your goals with the engine? What do you plan on using for (ie street/strip, autocross, etc)?

4.060" bore is probably OK for moderate power levels, but with large shots of nitrous or boost and it may be pushing it. I'm sure you could sell the block to someone who could use it, and offset the cost of another block in better shape.

well you can also order custom pistons of a 4.045 bore. i would have it sonic tested if you go any further than 4.030 though.

My goals are fairly minimal for now. Hoping for around 480-490 at the wheels N/A. Not planning on spraying but *might* boost it 2-3 years from now.

I'm leaning towards the "sell it to someone that doesn't mind using it for another application" and buying another one.

You could get it sonic tested to see if it will be good to .060 over......

Half fill the water jackets and bore it to 4.06".

I decided to buy another block. I'm actually trading this one as part of the deal (to someone who is braver than I about running it at 4.060) and paying $525 for a fully machined and ready to go 2001 LQ4 block including a new set ARP main studs.

Maybe my luck is turning around.

my 4.060 bore lq4 lays down 490rw n/a has around 14k miles, i shift at 7k
doesnt leak any oil or fluids, has consistent cylinder readings, 10.7:1scr
i have also sprayed it with 200 hit and race gas a few times.
not only that, i use replacement hyper pistons, and moly rings. on stock rods and crank.
thers nothing wrong with going .060 on a lq4
