From what I understand, the 2E port is just a budget port, and doesn't get all the TLC that their standard Stg 2 gets. Thats why it's cheaper. In that case, TEA's without a doubt. I just made 455 rwhp with my TEA 5.3's. I don't think you'll see more than 410-415 with a good cam and the 2E's.

If it's the set of MTI's that Trevor at TSP has for sale, I think they are the orginal Stage 2 with bronze guides and all support port work etc. I'd call TSP and find out because he had a set of MTI Stage 2 with about 3K miles on them.

I think it's a hard call

Per my conversations with Wayne and e-mails with Jayson (prior to purchasing the 2E's), the porting is the same as the "R" heads but with stock seats and guides. All else was reported to be the same. Same springs, retainers and all. I went with the 2E's mainly because reputation and time in the ring holds a lot of weight with me. Otherwise, I was looking at the TEA heads. I would have been happy either way.

If you take the time to copy the flow charts on MTI's website and overlay them the flow is within ~5cfm between the E's and R's. It's a little trickly overlay. MTI verified my suspensions about the E vs R.

FWIW in the end I'm going with TEA 2.5's for my current project.

The MTI heads have held up to a lot of abuse....the TEA's are putting down IMPRESSIVE numbers, but they're always w/the 5.3L heads and higher compression ratio...not saying there's anything wrong w/that but MTI can make almost the same HP w/the 5.7L heads and a lot less chance of detonation. I almost went 5.3's...but decided against....I'm happy with my MTI 5.7's..but they are the Stage 2+R's...with an X1 cam and Jayson did all my tuning.

Josey, I know you meant well by that but TEA using 5.3's really doesn't have to do with compression advantage. Almost EVERY shop is using 5.3L heads now mainly because you can mill them half as much, retain more PV clearance, AND make the same or more compression than a 5.7 heads. Every head that comes out of TEA's shop is milled .010 off (unless specified otherwise), which is ~10.9:1. MTI mills all of their 5.7 heads .030, which is also ~10.9:1 with much less PV clearance.
