Default Low oil pressure??

The ls1 is from a 99 camaro and is in a 85 Iroc. I had just gotten a comps cam and some 918 springs installed could this have something to do with low oil pressure. The pressure is aroung 10 psi and wont go up much when you rev the engine still havent drove it.I was planning on changing the gauge first, would the atometer sport comp oil gauge work with the stock ls1 sending unit. Also if Its not the gauge witch im hoping it is would the 01 ls1 pump from gm parts direct work. Thanks any comments are more than welcomed.

Assuming you didn't spin a bearing or anything it could be the pump. Sometimes people mess up the o-ring on the pickup tube for the oil pump also causing this to happen. You won't be able to use the stock sending unit. You can use the autometer one if you get the right fittings for the block. A '01 ls1 pump will work fine.

i agree with the oring theory

whoever installed you cam (if they had the oil pump off) may have pinched the o ring when reinstalling the pump which would cause low oil pressure

Happens alot, and I would definetly check that before you do infact spin a bearing or two.

like the others said, low pressure is almost alwasy o-ring related. it sucks that it has to be torn down but thats what you gotta do.

Well I called the guy that put my cam and springs on and asked him if he by any chance messed with my oil pump because my oil pressure was low. He said no and advised me to get a little cheap mechnical gauge from kragen so I did. wright on starup the Oil pressure went wright up and stoped at 50 psi. I doubt that 20 dollar gauge is very acurate so I will be ordering the autometer mechanical instead. I guess it was the gauge after all . Thanks again to every one that made the 85 IROC LS1 - soon to be cobra spanker possible.
