Default Oil Change Light

I was driving home from work last night and my oil change light came on , stayed on for a few miles then went off. Is it telling me it is about time for a oil change or what ?

only you know that. check your oil. change it if needed. to reset turn key to on and hold the trip for 15-20 seconds.

Our cars have a feature that will calculate when an oil change is needed, which if you daily drive it, is between 4-8k miles depending on an array of different factors like number of cold starts, rpm, mileage etc.
Chances are, you changed your oil and never reset it.

When that comes on you should pull over, tow your car home and change the oil ASAP I don't pay attention to those lights and just change it based on mileage/time. We don't need a calculation to tell us when to change the oil.

granted my situation happens to be in a 02 2500hd with only 40K miles
and its a LQ4.
but i change my oil in "my" daily which is a 97 c1500 every 3k miles. so when i change oil in my daily i buy a case of oil and filters for both trucks.
my wife works 3 min from the house. so the truck never sees 3k miles on a oil change.
so anyways i could never get the oil reset light on the HD to reset, and it was telling me to change the oil.
i just recently made a 12hr trip in the HD and the change oil light no longer comes on.
now as far as resetting the oil change setting i dont know yet.
but the display is no longer telling me to change the oil.
point being is you may need to put some good travel time on the motor and get the oil good and hot and moving through the motor, the oil may not be getting hot enough to burn any contaminants. there could be some contaminants on a sensor or sensors that have not been burned off yet.
this is just my thoughts.
good luck
Ed

ED,
To turn the light off in the HD, all u should have to do is turn the key foward to the "on" position, and pump the gas 3 times. Not to fast or too slow lol. It will make a noise when it resets.

I've had my 02'z28 for 2 1/2 yrs and never seen a light lol. It's seen a hole 3,500 miles in that time LOL. It get changes every 3 months at least even tho it just sits most of the time.

I think with some trucks there was a problem with the IPC (surprise surprise) that wouldn't let the light be reset. It might have to be reprogrammed. At least it finally shut off tho.
