Default Cammed car reliability

I am currently in the process of installing a cam in my 2002 Z06. I know modifying an engine reduces reliability but by how much my car is in no way a DD. I bring it to the track 4~5 times a year. The car currently as stock LS6 Heads, LG Pro long tubes, B&B Bullets & Halltech intake. Here’s what I am installing.

TSP MS4 111LSA
PRC Double Spring .660
Hardened Pushrods
FAST 90\90
FAST #36 Injectors
PowerBond 25% UD Pulley
LS2 Timing chain

I will be installing a new clutch next summer since the stocker will probably not last for to long.

Thanks !

With a proper tune it is just as reliable.

That would still be a very reliable set-up as long as you do the normal maintenance. It doesn't sound to me like your beating the **** out of it every weekend at the track so I think you'll be fine.

As long as the tune is good, the only thing "unreliable" so to say, are the parts that arent going to hold up to the new power...like the clutch.

I know modifying an engine reduces reliability
This is very incorrect sir. Proper choice of modifications along with a good tune will not reduce engine life one bit. The only thing that will need to be updated from time to time is your valve springs. There's several cars running around today that I put cams or heads/cams in back in 2000-2001.

TSP MS4 111LSA
PRC Double Spring .660
Hardened Pushrods
FAST 90\90
FAST #36 Injectors
PowerBond 25% UD Pulley
LS2 Timing chain
Your parts list looks good, other than the cam choice. The MS4 is a big cam, and doesn't work very well w/ 3:42 gears IMO (And yes I understand you have an M12 trans). If you have no plans of ever changing the diff to a 3:90 or higher, and prefer TSP cams I would look at their 228R/112 cam. Provides great power all over the place, and very driveable on the street. Should make a solid 430-440rwhp in your LS6 with your other parts mentioned. I think you would enjoy this cam much better.

Ya I think the cam choice isn't the best. Like Damian said you may want to try something a lil smaller. Bigger isn't always better.

Its not a DD, so maybe he can go with a huge cam.. but stock gear is not really good with it though like Damian said.

The lift and lobes of the MS4 are little extreme for my taste but since it is not a DD it may be fine for you. As for the gear I totally agree. You should gear it even if you go in the 228 range on the cam IMO.

Driveability is all in the tune and your opinion of what is and isn't driveable. As for the reliability the only thing I would worry about is springs with the huge lift the MS4 has on the intake with the LSK lobe. TSP themselves recommended pulling an intake spring about every 10K miles to check pressures (saw it in another thread). Mine's not a DD either so I'm not too worried about the dual springs and running over .610" lift on both lobes but I'll definitely get them checked after about 10K miles or so.

I never did an oil pump on mine, bu it only only has 55k miles on it. I DD my 232/232 cam and 3.42 car everyday but it has the proper tune and it does great. I spin it to 6500 rpms every once in awhile and its still drives like my car when it was just boltons. Like everyone said alot of drivability is gonna be in the tune, so hopefully you have a good tuner since your running that cam choice.

Even though its not a daily driver its a big cam and I would not chance it. Its up to you, a few dollars and hours now or a lot more dollars and head aches later.

Unless the car over 50 or 60k miles on it, then chances are it doesnt need an oil pump.

^Thanks. LS6 oil pump is fine. I kept my stocker when I did my build but I only had 30K miles on it. I did port the outlet of the pump while I had it apart just to make it a little more efficient.
