Default How much did your cam swap cost?

Excluding the cost of labor & a tune, how much did you spend on a cam swap?

I'm debating on putting one in my LS1 since I've already gotten it torn apart.

**Bonus Question** What cam do you prefer for a street car w/ just bolt ons/full exhaust? Car in question is an '02 T/A M6. I still take it on road trips, so take that into consideration as well.

It depends on what parts your using. You have to take into consideration the follwoing;

Cam - 350 to 500
Heads (if your going to do them) cnc 800 if you have all your own parts (ie springs, retainers, valves) 1K and up if not minimum
Exhaust (a must on most cams) 1200+
gaskets
tuning - 350 to 500 depends on who does it
new head studs 250
fluids
if automatic (stall if the cam deems it)
intake if you don't already have it. 250+
Oil pump if your car is close to 80K miles its a must 150+
lifters (if car has 50K+ miles) 100 LS stock
rods a must regardless
fluids
Springs/retainers/locks - depends of what you want I prefer 921's
Throttle body
LS6 manifold if you don't have one
Timing chain

Realistically your looking at about 2K+ if your doing the work yourself. If your going to get a cam that works with all your stock equipment your looking at 15 to 20 rwhp with a good tune at best.

Mine with heads, cam, some one did the work, because I was deployed, new tranny, stall and diff, and tune it ran me $6200

I think he's asking for the cam swap price not the whole build....

Things do get more expensive with these swaps then you first imagine, my $500 243 head swap, with gaskets and bolts cost twice that...

search the classifieds....my first cam swap was very inexpensive compared to most....
i found a used but new never used vinci crane 220/224 cam with a set of ls6 springs for 320 shipped to my door....bought a used ls6 oil pump for 40 bucks along with a low mileage timing set for 20 shipped as well....i also picked up a set of arp rodbolts used for 80 bucks shipped.....im wanting to say i had around 100 bucks in fluids gaskets and i used "tims tool" for the valvespring compressor.....

its nice to purchase new parts, but im normally on a tiny budget and the classifieds are nice...also to add to above i used a wait4me mail order tune 75 bucks....the car gained over 4mph at the track with the cam

$300 shipped cam
$200 shipped 241 heads with PRC duals
$100 shipped push rods
$100 shipped arp head bolts
$025 shipped arp crank bolt
$100 shipped head gaskets
$100 shipped cloyes hex a just timing chain
$080 shipped high volume oil pump
$050 or so for oil/filter/coolant

Total: $1,055

The reason I bought the heads is because I was changing out my lifters.

I priced all my stuff out not including the cam at $1,100(katech rod bolts, tsp valve train kit, tsp oil pump, gaskets and bolts, asp udp, timing set, etc..) and that doesnt include coolant and an oil change which will be like another $100. Also have to get a valve spring compressor tool which is like $120 also.

Pretty much what these guys have said.
Figure say new, TSP cam pkg. 589-689 + shipping
Another 60 dollars or so in gaskets. that is mid 600s to mid 700s on just the basics.
Add timing chain and oil pump...another at least 200 or so.
Basically to be safe plan on 1000-1200 and that doesn't include a tune and in some cases labor.
