LS1 Cams
I've been looking at the cams on LS1speed.com and was looking the the comp cam:
Lift: 0522/.529
Dura@.50:
212/218
LSA:114
This is for my A4 without a stall. Is this a good start? Am looking at getting headers, heads, and cam within the next year. Probably start with the cam, since its the cheapest, then headers, then heads. Any "Real" suggestions would be greatly apprecicated.

I would go with a stall first unless you are just dead set against one for some reason. It would be much more beneficial than the cam you are looking at. Why do you want to go with such a small cam?

well, just want something alittle better than the cam. as far as the stall, i really wont be going to the track all that much and racing, so I'm not sure if spending 700 on a stall is worth it right now. I've also been thinking of the GM Hot Cam as well.

The Hotcam is good, but without a converter and/or tuning, the 112 LSA may not be the best for an A4 car. If you don't want a real radical cam that will be a good performer, go with a 220-222 duration and about a .550-.56X lift. Above that on stock heads is pointless, IMO. The 114 LSA is a good one for you.

You can get a good stall from TSP for around $500. Once you factor in springs, retainers, and pushrods in with the price of the cam plus the installation cost if you are not going to do it yourself you might be surprised at how close the price would be. Depending on what you spend on the cam it could be even cheaper for the stall. If you are really set on a cam though I would go with something like Jabroni suggested.

Going without a stall is like shooting yourself in the foot!
The TCI SSF3500 knocked over a second off my ET with torque management removal. Not to mention it removes all the "dead spots" the stock torque converter makes. You won't believe how much more fun your A4 car is to drive after a stall... MMMMMhmmmm!

I am running a Comp Cams with similar specs. (CC 54-414-11 216/220 525/532 114) It is only very slightly more aggressive. I needed to maintain torque as I am running this in my 96 Impala SS (4000lbs +) with a 2002 LS1/T56 swap. I did install a new Eaton and 4.10s as well. There is only a very slight lope (I wish there were a little more), but it sounds good out of the QTP headers, 3" SS pipe, Borla mufflers and 4” oval side exit exhaust. It also gets 15+ city and close to 25 on the highway. With a 150 shot it runs pretty good as well. I am about to install new wheels and 315/35s on the rear and put the car on a diet to see how well I can get it to run.

Just FYI, MTI isn't selling the B1 or T1 any longer. You'll have to check to see if any of them are floating around at another shop someplace. The C1 is as "small" as you'll get from MTI...unless you go stealth. The difference between the B1/T1 is only a degree anyway. If you don't want real radical, go C1.

I have that same cam the 212/218 .522/.529 on a 114 in my car right now and im taking it out to go with a bigger cam in my 383 im getting built right now. Ill let ya have it for half of what you would pay speed inc. Im not slamming them i like them and i buy from them. Im just letting you know you have another option. Its been in the car for a little under 9K miles. That cam worked really well with my TCI SSF 3500 stal converter too. PM me if you would like any other info.

I had the 212/218 without a stall. For that purpose it's perfect but gives now room for TR224 /SY3500. If you do a lot of stop and go driving and don't plan on utilizing converter with drag radials then the 212/218 with the stock stall is a valid alternative. But there's a big risk you'll want more...
