Default need help asap, shift fork/gears/linkage issue

2001 head/cammed zo6

i was out the other weeking playing around and most likely went 2-5 instead of 2-3. i know its stupid but it happened....(at least thats what i think happened by what is happening now)

now when i drive every gear is fine except 5th. when i shift into 5th gear, clutch pedel still fully pushed in, i can feel the gear turning through my shifter, and when i lift up on the clutch it just grinds. also, when i'm stopped sitting still, i put it into 5th and let the clutch out, it won't hold the car (when its turned off)

soooo, we think what is happening is my shift fork is bent away from 5th. from what my dad (mechanic) said, 1-2 has a fork 3-4 has a fork and 5-6 has a fork. and if the fork got bent in the direction of 6th gear it would produce the problem i'm having correct?

he wasn't sure off the top of his head, but he said it also could be a linkage problem, but he thought since the transmission is in the rear, there would be only 1 link to the trasmission, making EVERY gear be screwed up, so we ruled that out.

any help?

also from what i found out, i think in 04 they switched from alum to steel fork. would an 04 steel fork be a direct replacement?
