Z06 Cam going into a 2000 5.3L ?'s
Hi,
I am wondering what I need to do to the motor in order to make it run properly with the new Z06 cam. The motor is a stock 2000 5.3L with 80,000 miles on it and it is in excellent shape. I just recently bought a Z06 cam for it and I want to put it in now. I know I need to put new springs in to allow the cam to work but what else would I need to replace? I plan on porting and polishing the heads and I am putting long tube headers on the motor too. Do I need to put new rockers on it? New lifters? New push rods?
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Dan

Thanks!
I was planning on going with new head gaskets anyway just as an extra insurance policy for the motor. I know how the dex coolant eats those things alive!
Now should I get the entire valvetrain off of a Z06? So it would match my cam. would that work?
Thanks,
Dan

The rockers and lifters are the same as a Z06 (LS6) already. You can reuse your old locks and retainers. You need a $60 set of LS6 springs. Get the ones good to .575 lift. IIRC the base circle of that cam is slightly smaller than your LM7 cam so you will need to go with a slightly longer pushrod.

Question
I was told that if you take the 5.3 heads off you should have them checked and milled if neccesary is this correct? (I plan on going forced induction)
If so how will that effect the the pushrod length. I was told to assume the heads might be taken down .005~.006 to make them flat (genraly).
Was also reading that the "perfect" geometry for the pushrod length for the 5.3l Z06 swap is 7.45 so would I then subtract what the head is milled down from that?
My Motor has 170k on it, and was thinking about doing this swap. Replacing the lifters the pushrods the springs and the cam. Kind of on a shoestring budget.

Thanks for all help! I am going to pick up some springs and then get the heads ported and polished and the springs installed. Then I'll get everything measured out for the push rods. Thanks for all the help again! and if anyone has any more pointers that I should know about please let me know!
Thanks,
Dan
