Default LS1 or LS6

I have a 2002 Z-28 w/six speed, hurst etc. I heard that my car has an LS6 block. Is that possible? My car was built in August of 2002.

Yes, it is true. There's a thread going around right now about this. Try a search or just look for it. It's not an old thread.

Mine was built in July of '02 and it has the LS6 block. I've always been curious if there was a pattern. They didn't just go eenie, meenie, miney, mo, did they?

i guess it was kind of a hit or miss thing, depending on what day they were made. there was a good article in GMHTP a couple of months ago if you have it laying around.

the LS6 block wont increase HP, but will help with oil drainage back to the pan.....if you want an LS6 engine...put some LS6 heads on it from one of our sponsors...hehehehe...

East way to tell : look at the front passenger side of the block. Just below the head on the outside front corner. On the "LS6" block there is a round nickle sized casting embossment. The "LS1" blocks don't have it.

Since the 8th digit signifies the engine I would think all would be G's since they are LS1's?
