Default MS3 cam drivability issues.

Ive been thinking of doing a cam swap and really like the ms3 cam as far as the way it sounds and the power it makes as well. My only concern is of the drivability with a m6. I know it will be fine as far as stop light to stop light but my question is do they seem to surge when your cruising down the highway in 6th gear under 2k rpm. I have a 4.10 gear so the rpms will usually be higher but even cruising at 70 mph im only at 2k.

As long as the tuner knows what the hell he is doing, it'll be fine

It is very important to have the car tuned properly. I originally had my car tuned by an incompetent person (did not know it at the time). I had all kinds of issues with bucking, and dieing/stumbling while running the AC. I took it to a competent tuner which fixed all of my issues. MAKE SURE YOU DO YOUR RESEARCH ON YOUR TUNER.

Another important thing with this cam is to run some gears, which it looks like you have. This will help with the bucking.

Thats good to know guys. Well here in cincinnati we have a tuner that is suppose to be real good his name is Tracey Scott I believe. I checked with him on the price to get a tune and was going to be around $600 by the time you pay for dyno time and the tune since he dont have his own dyno. Ive herd alot of good things about him though .

Your gear will make that cam very livable with a good tune. You will be fine if your tuner is up to snuff.....

My buddy runs the MS3 in his '01 T/A and he loves it. I'm in the middle of an MS4 install right now.

Does $600 sound about right for a tune or should it be a little less. This guy is only 15 miles from my house so it would actually make it easy for me to get there.

It usually costs about $500, maybe $450 for a lifetime tune. So yes, 600 is a bit high.

A lot of places do $400 flat-rate, and some do $450, but I have been shopping around and the bigger shops usually charge $450 to $500. I would say $600 is out there. Try to negotiate, or maybe it shows that he really doesn't do many tunes.

He tunes alot of LS1 cars and everybody that I see around here with a camaro or firebird tell me to go see him (Tracey Scott) to get a tune. I know he has done alot of cars but just dont want to pay the $600 but I think the price is high because he uses a shops dyno and the time on the dyno needs to be paid for on top of his time for the tune.
