Default Cam n00b. What's a good one for LS1 w/LS6 intake?

Hey everyone. Kind of new here. Obviously I'll be upgrading springs/retainers/pushrods. LS1 is from a 99 Vette. 1 3/4" LT's, going with an LS6 intake. Just wondering what would be a good cam for me. Car is a weekend type fun car. It's not my daily.

I'd like *some* reliability out of this motor, I don't want to worry about PTV contact, but I'd still like to get the bigger cam lope out of it. Any suggestions? (Will be mated w/a T56)

I've heard/read great things about the Torquer v2 cam.

What's the +2 mean? Does that have to do with how the cam is degreed in? Advanced 2 degrees past stock?

If I'm going to have the motor opened up, I really only want to do it once. If I'm going to spend money on a cam, I want to do it right.

Vindicator is a big cam. A little too big for an otherwise stock block (minus p/r's, springs, retainers). I'd be a little worried about the rod bolts probably.

What does the size of a cam have to do with rod bolt durability. Just don't rev it super high.

Sure, but then you don't really get to take full advantage of the size of the cam if you don't rev it. Right?

That's why I posted what I wanted out of the car. So my question wasn't open ended. Not a daily driver, want *some* reliability w/o having to worry about PTV contact.

Not wanting an LS6 cam, but thanks.

i ordered my cam through Pat G im in the process of installation (still awaiting the cam since its custom grind) but i have everything out and i already did the valve springs. i wanted pretty much the same as what you wanted except i wanted it to be so i can daily drive the car when i want. i will give you my specs of the cam when i finish installation if your interested. if your doing the cam install yourself buy the girdle for the oil pump pick up tube and also put into consideration the new base circle of the cam so you can get the correct length pushrods.

with the el torro is a great street cam with a good amount of low end torque compared to bigger cams its also the smallest cam in the top ten fastest cam only cars. all the cars on that list have like the t-rex, ms4, ms3 and so on.

The Vindicator is a great cam only cam and if you decide you want to add heads later on down the road its also great for a heads and cam set-up. I dont have a vindicator in my car but have rode in a 6speed trans am with one and it pulls like a freight train. All he had done to his car besides the basic cam kit was true duals and turndowns. It sounded mean as heck too.

Any idea how long he's been running it? Any problems with it?

Thanks for the good feedback.
