Don't forget to break in the new valve springs with several heat cycles.

its alot easier then you think. just a cam/spring swap is very straight foward and easy. i've done it twice now, the first time i did the chain and pump and it took a bit longer. 2nd time i did it i didnt even need to follow the guide, only for tq specs. once your done you'll be amazed how simple it was and glad you did it yourself. and to let you know i had absolutely no mechanical experience what so ever before i did my cam install. as long as you all the tools, supplies, and patience it can be done.

im worried at the last valve springs deep in the engine, was it hard to remove them, also what valve spring compressor did u use ? any clerance issues tryin to get em out imma be puttin in a 224 with no more than .568 lift at 114 or 112 LSA. Im just gonna swap springs and the cam nothin else. I figure it should be koo because its an 02 so i shouldnt worry bout the oil pump or time belt

Depending on what tool you use to compress the spring you can use a long flat head screw driver to help free the retainer locks from the valve

it wasnt hard at all . for the valve springs i made a tool like a fork that pushed down on the ends of the retainers and a pen magnet to get the locks but it took me a total of 8 hours and thats with the occasional beer break . these ls1's are the easiest motors to work on. that is if half the motor wouldnt be under the cowl and that was my first cam swap.ill be going make a pass in it tonight to see what its going to do.

All you have to do is tap the top lightly with anything that has a little weight
to it and they will turn loose.

I am looking for a better spring compressor though,
that 3 point handle on the screw type hand one we had was killing my hands by the end of the Job

I have the same one. I kinda saved my hands because the handle came off and allowed me to use a 5/8 rachetig box wrench

I wish... This one the handle is welded on.

I would love to use a rachet or boxrachet like you did.
That is why I am looking at getting the more tool for my up coming install
