Default Worst case of piston slap ever! 56k=death

Well, after losing compression in several cylinders and sounding like my exhaust was coming out of my intake manifold, I have had to replace my old engine which had only 40k miles on it. Here are the pics form the teardown. Feel free to weep with me.
Cylinder 1:

Cylinder 2:

Cylinder 3:

Cylinder 4:

Cylinder 5:

Cylinder 6:

Cylinder 7:

Cylinder 8:

Notice how smooth and glassy the even numbered cylinders are? The odd numbered ones are gouged to hell. I am not sure if honing will even fix the odd numbered ones, especially number one and seven.

Now for the pistons:
I am only going to show the worst ones and the best to give a comparison.

Wow!! I guess I have been kinda lucky with my lq9 from the SS with the piston slap issue.

On the bright side, I have seen worse and yours could be worse. Good luck with the build

It was the only thing holding that piston in the block. A-Team style!

Let me guess...K&N air filter was used? Looks like alot of dirt was getting in the intake some how.

Yeah, a K&N filter was used for the odd cylinders and a paper filter was used on the evens. Finally conclusive proof K&N filters will destroy your engine in 40k miles or less.

That is too funny

That #7 cyl looks really bad. I hope you can save it without boring it. If you have to bore, stroke it too.

Looks more like coolant washed the oil off the cylinder wall causing the piston damage. Slap is usually cold start only and stops when the piston expands.

Can't really see to much by the pics, but it can be put back together pretty cheap. Just have it bored out to 3.905, pretty much is just a nice clean-up. Then buy a nice forged piston and rod setup and put her back together.

After having everything balanced of course.
