Looks kinda like a BBC we had in a boat...gasoline got into the oil and took out all the lubrication the oil has and chewed **** up.
But I dont think it was that...were there any broken valve springs? With the carnage I would imagine there are. Maybe they were coil binding and broke but didnt drop the valve which in case you are lucky.

all springs are intact as well as all lifters. nothing frozen up and no serious wear on the lifters(120,000 wear tracts only). oil was normal with no smell of gas at all

ive had this happen to 2 older sbc enginesthey were flat tappets though. the answer i got from the cam company was that i broke the engine in with synthetic oil on both and they took the zync out of newer synthetic oils and that was what wore the lobes off of both of my cams they apparently were to soft of a compound, no thanks to them in the end. i broke in my cam in my ls i have now with mobil and havnt had a problem. there is no break in on a roller set up so maybe push rods to long binding the valvetrain? whats the lift? push rod length? lifters?
