My "Winter Project".. give your input.
I have been tossing this idea around for a while, but I had never felt very confident about a sleeved block until all of the new darton information has become available here lately.
I'm going to buy one of the sleeved darton blocks using a new LS6 block to start out on, use a stock crank, stock rods with ARP bolts, send my stage II LS6 style heads back to Patriot for a stage III upgrade, then off to have the combustion chambers, valve faces, and exhaust ports PolyDyn coated, Coated Diamond forged pistons, reuse my TSP231/237 cam until I decide to go larger, Patriot Shaft mount rockers, Comp "R" lifters, and shoot for about 11.8 to 12.1 compression. I know that there are different opinions on which is the best way to build a 38x cubic inch engine, but my train of thought has always leaned towards the all bore engines. I belive that the large bore lets the wonderful Gen III heads realize more of their potential.

just go ahead and do it now. you know in 3 months you'll change it to a solid roller anyway if you don't. might as well do it now.
that being said. i think the big bores are the way to go for power, cid being equal. i'm still a little leary of sleeved blocks but they do seem to be getting much more reliable. good luck with your new project

Does anyone know what the HP difference between coated and non-coated parts would be in this combo? Would the major benefit associated with coatings just be in the reliability?

Hey Gomer, did you ever get those new LS6 type heads on your car? I read a few days ago you were going to get the car redyno'd with the new heads. Did you ever do that? Have you taken it to the track yet?

I've been driving the car about two or three weeks with the newer heads installed. I have an appointment to dyno on 12/19.. so I'll have new numbers this time next week. I expect the midrange to show a good improvement and maybe a few HP at the peak too... time will tell
oh, and my car doesn't get ran at "approved tracks" It is pointless trying to launch the car with the stock rear, if my income tax return is more than I'm hoping.. I'll add a 12 bolt with 4.10's and maybe try it then. It did run over 120mph in the 1/4 with the older LS6 style heads about 2 months ago on a 2,000+ DA day and street tires.
Edit:
Ok, dug up my timeslip
60ft 2.12
1/8 7.80 @ 94.8 mph
1/4 12.01 @ 120.3 mph
3,580lbs race weight.
The DA was 2,200 feet and that was on the stock 3.42 rear and street tires. Granny shifting the new tranny.
