Default Newer Lq4 Pistons In Older Lq4???

I have a 2002 lq4, i cracked a piston and want to install a set of pistons and rods from a 2005 lq4. im worried about piston and rod weight if maybe i should get it balanced? and if the crank will work fine with these rods? they are both lq4s but just different years.

anybody run into this? any ideas?

If the newer set has floating pins then you will need to rebalance the crank. The LS2 style rods with floating pins ('05+) are significantly heavier (~20grams IIRC) than the earlier press fit style. Do you not have access to the '05 crank?

i don't, i guess i will try to find a crank it would be cheaper than getting it balanced.
