Replacing HotCam. Any suggestions?
Hey guys,
I've decided to get some stage 2 ported heads for my car (Patriot Perf ones). Still undecided whether to go with stage 2 LS1 heads or stage 2 LS6s (money issues will be the deciding factor). Regardless, I want to change my cam to best take advantage of the better flowing heads.
I have been recommended a comp grind with these specs: 224/224 .581 114. This cam sounds good to me, but if anyone has any other suggestions, that would be great
One thing: My car is a DAILY DRIVER though, so I still need to have it be fairly "streetable" - stable idle, with reasonable slow speed/parking characteristics. By daily driver I mean 150 hard commuter (rush hour) miles a week in the hot and cold weather and sunny days and rainy days. It took some repeated tuning/tweaking to get the hotcam to be "livable" in a daily driver and my car still has some nagging idle/slow speed driveability issues. So if possible, I would like a cam that is easier to "dial in" than the hotcam. (shouldn't be too hard!)
BTW, I also have a FAST intake on order to be installed with the new cam and heads.
Any suggestions/advice would be appreciated . Thanks!

I very much like the 224/114 cam Brad. That cam is usually 90% as good as some of the biggest cams out there.
The single pattern and 114 aspects of the cam should make it idle pretty well.

You're on the right track with that cam. You might also check into the Stealth II cam if you want a little smoother idle with roughly the same overall power.

The 224 comp XER grinds are great. (on 114LSA)
if you wanted really stealth with a 6100-6300rpm power peak look at a 220/220 116LSA -2 degrees retarded XE-R as well. Will idle like stock and make great power.
Cheers,
Chris

I have a SRP 224 XE-R on a 113 LSA...it's a great daily driver cam. I think the 114 would be even better for you hard commuting.
I'd skip the Stealth II and all other revese splits because the better flowing LSX intake you have on order may very well make the reverse split a thing of the past at least for the cars with great flowing intakes.
If your going to consider high LSA's a customized 226 XE-R on a 115 LSA might be worth asking Futral about or some other cam expert >>>>>>>>

Awesome stuff! Thanks for the encouragement and the nice alternatives to consider too I'll likely go with the comp grind, but I'll make sure to do some searches on those other cams too
Thanks again everybody

We use the 224/224 .581/.581XER in about 90% of our cam installs, and we have used them with the Patriot stage 2 heads as well.
With a pulley, LS6 intake, longtubes and offroad y-pipe, with tuning, they usually make 420-430RWHP in an M6 car.
