Default Need some help

This goes out to all the cam guys and those who know a little something about piston to valve clearence.

Would a cam spec'd at 238/242 .605/.610 115 lsa fit in an otherwise stock LS1 shortblock without having to flycut?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Those specs are very close to the MS3 which will fit. I think the MS3 is a 237/242 .6??/.6?? usualy cut on a 112 for a stick car or a 114 for an Auto. You mentioned the short block is stock, how about the heads? Are they milled any? What thickness of head gasket are you using? I would say if the heads are stock (not milled) and you are still using the stock thickness head gasket you are probabley good, but if your heads are milled and or you are running a thiner head gasket, you had better clay it up and find out.

You are probably at the very edge of fly cutting. The cam I have from ed curtis is about that big with a 614/614 lift and a 112 LSA and I did not have to fly cut but I did run very slightly massaged 243s. 64 CC chambers and milled only .005 with .054 MLS gasket.

But with all that you still need to measure and see what your measurements are for your vpc is. No matter what any one tells you.

Good luck.

The heads aren't milled and it's the stock thickness head gasket as well.

how do you think this cam would perform in a 6.0 or 6.2 block?

It would work well in either of those engines as long as you use the correct supporting mods, as well.

would this cam help me in the basically stock LS1 (bolt -ons) for the time being until im ready to throw boost at it?

or should i just throw a smaller bumpstick in the LS1 for the time being and build a 6.0 or bigger engine? soo many options.

Again, this cam is basicaly a MS3 cut on a 115 instead of a 114. I would expect this cam to be perfect for the 5.7L, if you want to make a lot of power. I would expect it to work very good with some funny juice. As far as boosting it:I think it would be a nice cam for a supercharged 5.7L or 6.0L but I would not run it with a turbocharged 5.7L or 6.0L (only because I like a smaller cam for turbo, just my preference). I would think it would be a good Turbo/Supercharged cam in a larger engine, 6.2L and up to a 408/427ci.

You have a good cam that I would think will be very well suited for several diferent aplications. It will be rough idling in a 5.7L and it will need plenty of fine tuning with a tuner that realy gives a $hit to make it DD with no problems. A larger displacement engine will tame that cam down some.

My point is, run it! Get it tuned right, and you will not be disapointed.
Or you can sell it to me and I will run it in something.

Good luck

well i bought the cam over this site, and i talked to the guy and it turns out he hasn't shipped it yet.

I decided it's just not going to suit my needs and he is very understanding, so he's sending the money back. But, if you would like, i can pm you the link to his thread and notify him you are interested in the cam.
