Question *Pics added* Cylinder wall rust?

So I pulled my motor apart for a head and cam swap almost 3 years ago and really haven't messed with it yet. I have noticed that the cylinders have rust on the sides now. How can I get this off without damaging anything? Here are some pics.

Try a bead hone, if that doesn't work and the cylinders have pitted from the rust, then you have to machine it.

you do not need to remove the motor to hone the cylinders. but if its bad enough yes the motor will need to come out and go to a machine shop

I agree. The rust will pit the cylinder walls pretty quickly. Then it will need to be machined.

I will try to take some pics, it's at my mom's house so the next time I go over I will get some. If the motor ends up having to come out I might as well do a swap.

Rust is bad. The motor will have to come out if its pitted. If its surface you can clean it by putting the piston all the way down and sealing it off with tape. Then clean all the rust off with liquid wrench and news paper. If the muck gets into the ring lands it cant come out. I would not recommend honing it that is a NO NO. The ringa are already seated. At best its better to clean it and dont let anything get caught in the lands. TOM

I'd take it to the machine shop.

I would also like to hear opinions on what route to go with if the motor needs to come out.
1. Have it cleaned up, forged bottom end 346 and put it back together.
2. Have it cleaned up, bored, forged bottom end stroker kit for 382.
3. Sell motor as is and buy a crate motor, something around $3500-4500 which might get me an LS2 402 or so.
4. Your choice.

Sorry bro but that thing needs to come out. Hopefully the cylinders can be cleaned up and the block saved. I'd buy as many cubic inches as you can afford with the rebuild

You'll lose money selling yours as is. Take it to the machine shop, get it done .01 over. Get some decent forged pistons and H-beam rods, reuse your stock crank.

I'm not a big fan of cutting a block more than is necessary unless it's a max effort application. If something happened and you had to have it cut again you'd be out of luck unless you left yourself some room.

Try cleaning it with WD40 and with very soft tissues after soaking

When my motor goes, i'll take it out throw a forged 383 rotating assembly in it and spray the hell out of it.
