Default Cant decide if i want to do heads also

Im wanting to mod my car over the winter. Been toying around the idea of just spraying the car and saving a little money that way. But i want to power all the time. I have a 2000 LS1 with the 853 heads and was going to do cam only. Do you guy think its best to go ahead if i can swing the extra $$ to upgrade the heads? Im wanting to run some 6.70 1/4 10.60 1/4. Put know if i thats going to run me $2000 with heads and cam. So i guess im looking for some head and cam suggests OR just go spray and be happy?

You have a long expensive road ahead of you if you want 6.7s/10.6s on motor H/C stock cubes.. You will need a FAST intake, suspension, a very nice set of heads (1500$min.), 232/234 .600 111 -ish cam.. With that comes everything else.. better springs, oil pump, etc etc.. Chances are you will end up needing a rear end pretty quickly and the transmission will be pushing the line also.
Only way to get around some of that is with major weight reduction, I have been down that road and won't do it again.

For what you want for the amount of money I would buy a used 9" for around 1200 bucks and then spend around 450$ on a nitrous kit.. That will leave you a bit left over to get a tune.. Should put you VERY close to your 6.7 mark and will be within budget. I do not see you hitting 6.7s/10.6s with a 2000$ budget if you car is going to weigh over 3100lbs...

Yeah been thinking about the expense it going to cost also and dont want to or dont have the $$ for that. yeah oil pump, fast intake, injectors, other small stuff with probably add up to over $3000. And if i can limp the 10 bolt till it breaks all i have to do is buy the gas kit, retune it. And HSW has the plate kit on sale for $400. keep the ideas coming guys

I would definitely do the kit/tune/9" in that case then.. Never have to worry about the rear again, way cheaper, plenty of room to grow later. If 2k is your absolute limit, you will not hit your times without MAJOR weight reduction (if you are on stock suspension you won't hit it at all IMO). It will run you 4+k to do it NA from the point you are at right now.

I wouldn't even do the cam.. if it were me with your money I would go 9", nitrous kit, tune.. It sucks spending the money on parts that don't actually help you to go faster such as the 9", but it will be nice having peace of mind that if you go to the track you don't have to worry if you have to buy a new rear.
The nitrous will give you more the heads and the cam put together. Tune just because you will need one.

if you know for sure that you want to do heads in the future . pick a cam that will match the heads that you are wanting to go with, that way when you come to that point, your setup will match and be optimal!
