Question Z06 (LS6) cam vs. GM Hot Cam

Which one is making more power at the flywheel? I know the Z06 (LS6) is about 405 hp. Now with just a cam swap to the GM Hot Cam, would the engine make more or lose hp? If so, how much more?

Personally I would not spend the money or time to do a cam swap for another "stock" cam. You'll see 49 hp and 42 lb-ft gains from an ls1 cam.

Ls6 Cam specs 204/218@.50 .550/.550 lift 117.5 LSA
LS6 Cam specs 207/217 @.50 .525/.525 lift 116 LSA
Hot Cam specs 219/228@.50 .525/.525 lift 112 LSA

Goals...make more power than a Z06 (LS6), with a little more lope, while staying smog legal. Just want to know how much more power the cam will make/put out.

Yes! It has to pass SMOG. It's going in a 2003 Silverado. I want a little more lope with out making "too many" changes from "stock".

The .525 lift cam is the 2001 LS6 385 hp (also later model LS1 GTO's). Whereas the .550 lift cam is the 2002/2004 LS6 405 hp.

z06 pkg on a f-body is the best combination yet, all numbers are equal in flow.

EPS
Truck Torque 2
Intake Duration: 218 Degrees at .050" Tappet Lift.
Intake Lift: .595" with 1.7 rockers.
Exhaust Duration 226 Degrees at .050" Tappet Lift
Exhaust Lift .598" with 1.7 rockers.
113 Degree LSA

Or take to Geoff at EPS and he can do a custom cam for your needs/wants.

Get the thunder racing 224 on 114lsa. It is very mild but will have more power then the two you listed. A lot of people regret the ls6 cam bacause the gains are so small once you factor in all the costs.

Doing a 5.7L with the EXACT Z06 specs (tentatively) but i'm getting some good feedback in this thread. I originally wanted the GM HOT cam due to the noticeable idle and the "ease" of swap. I know what the Z06 is rated at for HP, but I was curious to know what gains could be had with a HOT cam in a stock Z06.

This sounds like a good cam that would give me what i'm looking for. It should be easy on valve train parts...

I don't have a GTO...I have a 2003 Silverado with a 5.3. I am building a 5.7 LS6/Z06 engine to replace the 5.3L. The engine has to pass smog and i want a little more noticeable idle. I'll be starting from scratch with the entire build (to LS6/Z06 specs)

Hmmm...fuel-friendly IS a GREAT thing, since we have the most expensive 91 octane fuel in the nation out here... I shall look at Lingenfelter's site right now. How does the car sound? Is it obvious that it has an aftermarket cam, at idle?
