Default Which Patriot Heads For My Cam

Hi Just Became Registered To The Forum. You Guys Are Great And Very Informative!
My Car Is A 02 Ss M6. Which Patriot Heads Would Go Best With My Car?
My Mods Are Gm Hot Cam, Jet Hot Headers With Y Pipe And Cats, slp Lid,k&n Filter, slp Mass Air,slp Ram Air Box,flowmaster Muffler, With Stock Tune And Stock Rear. Im Looking At Stage 1 Or Stage 2 Ls1 Heads. I Would Like To Keep My Hot Cam And Make Hopefully 400 Rear Wheel HORSEPOWER Or Close? Is This Possible? Your Replies Will Be Greatly Appreciated!

With a Hotcam, "possible" is the more likely scenario. You may need more cam to break 400 RWHP but it can be done with a Hotcam. Many have done it. If I were you, look at the Stage 2 5.3 truck heads. They're a direct bolt-on to the LS1. The "LS6" heads wont benefit your setup IMO as much as the 5.3's will. There's more potential with the LS6 style, but you'd need to do more to exploit it (i.e., bigger cubes, more cam). You can't go wrong either way.

I agree with Chris, 5.3 LS1s would probably be your best bet, as you'll get more compression and similar/equal flow. 400RWHP will still be pretty tough, though, I would imagine. Do you have any current dyno numbers?

I have a hotcam and the mods listed below and still got 375 at the wheels on a mustang dyno. I dont have an ls6 or better intake, pullies, etc.. so I think it would be very possible.

heck Jeff,
you made 375 on a mustang, and from all the posts I have read they are 15%
lower than a Dynojet... that would put you at 431?

15hp maybe, but I doubt any dyno could be 15% wrong. there's no way a cam/headers only car is making 431, well a hotcam/headers only car anyways.

I have to agree with you on that,
I have seen many post with people saying 15% is about the difference in what the two different dynos read. Yours is the first one I put pen to paper with,
but that dones not seem right at all.

Haven't gotten any numbers yet, but hope to after Christmas. I wanna see what kind of goodies I acquire on the 25th first.

I love the cam. Mucho fun on the street. I hope it provides some nice dyno numbers.

I had a 50hp difference from a Mustang to a dynojet. I was upset with my numbers when I saw them on the mustang, but the guys there were all impressed. On "their" dyno, most stock ls1's were averaging 260-270hp where I put down 335hp with cam and a few bolt ons. Just goes to show you each dyno is different.

See that was my point....
You did not post your dynojet #s but I will assume you put down 385Hp
and if that is the case.. that would be 15%... (50.25 but come on)

SO that goes back to my saying Jeffs #s are awesome for his cam set up..

I would recommend going with the stage II 5.3L Patriot cylinder heads. The stage II LS6-style heads will not really show a significant gain over the 5.3L heads with the current camshaft that you're running. The stage II cylinder heads will come with stainless SI 2.02"/1.57" valves, Patriot dual valve springs, titanium retainers, etc. They're fully-assembled and ready to go! The stage I cylinder heads come with stock valves and springs, so I don't recommend them. The stage II heads will work better for you and give you plenty of growing room if you ever swap to a larger camshaft.

Feel free to give us a call if we can help. We have sold well over 100 sets of Patriot cylinder heads in the last three months, so they have more than proven themselves! FYI, I would expect you to pick up right at 30 RWHP with the addition of stage II 5.3L Patriot heads, so 400+ RWHP is certainly feasible with the GM Hotcam.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks!

Brian
