Default Which cam is better for my needs TR224 or the Comp XER 224 581"

Thinking about a cam down the road and have it narrowed down to either the TR224 or the Comp Cams 224/224 581 both of which on a 114 lsa. My mods power mods include Flp long tubes, borla catback, lid&filter. I also have the TNT wet kit so Im gonna be spraying a bit on the cam (no more than 100-150hp shot) These cams where chosen for their all around capability and emmissions friendliness. I believe my area uses both the roller and odbII test but im not sure as my car is a 2002 and has only had a non emissions inspection so far.
My questions are is it worth it to go with the comp cams with the larger lift numbers? My car is not a daily driver but sees a bit of street duty/cruising. I hit the track from time to time as well. No head plans at this time but down the road possibly. I know the increase lift will effect my valvespring life but is the power increase worth the maintainance issues?

Well the TR224s lift is 561 I think,
SO with you planing on Nos I would say go with the comp or Tsp with the 581 lift....

But alot of things I have read say on stock heads anything over 561 is not doing a lot of good.

People use bigger cams than .561 all the time on stock heads and get great numbers out of them. I'd go with the TSP cam with the .581 lift.

I doubt the advantages of running the higher lift Comp would outweigh the disadvantage of added stress on the valvetrain, especially with stock heads. The TR224 with its lower lift usually puts out numbers identical to the Comp 224/.581 on stock heads.

I'd go with the TR224.

So, to throw a twist into the question, what if somebody were planning some really good heads, say, the patriot LS6/LQ9's, or the AFR's (if they turn out to be worthwhile)? Would that skew one's suggestion towards the X-ER .581 grind?

Yes. If not something even bigger.

I never said people are not getting great numbers, but on stock
heads there is a point you will saturate or begain to hit a wall.

read the following thread, paying extra attention to the 3 different cams on stock heads with dyno numbers.
https://ls1tech.com/forums/generation-iii-internal-engine/121955-question-about-cam-lift.html

I will soon be adding a TR230 myself, and have no plans for new heads, but I do know new heads would do wonders for my numbers.

Thanks, I'll do some more reading on the XE-R's.

Edit: Found this thread:
https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...hlight=224+XER

by a fellow considering patriots and the 224 XE-R. Sounds like a good combo.
