Default Can cam bearing fall down when a cam swap!

A friend is telling me that iam risking that a cam bearing may fall down when taking out the cam cuz of the mileage that my car has? It has 182k miles and I don't think cz of the friction it may be stuck real good! Anybody got any issues like this or he just over exagerating?

if the cam bearings come out doing a cam swap than you definately have other issues. he may have been slightly confused, during a cam swap you definately have to be careful to make sure the LIFTERS dont fall down.

you ever seen how cam bearings are installed? they are hammered in place with a special cam bearing installer. they aren't coming out.

If the clearance was so excessive that you cam bearings would fall out when you removed the cam you would have spun that bearing a long time ago. Cam bearings are an interference fit. If there is no interference then there is no fit.

if u have ever seen or removed and replaced cam bearings ur self, that answers your question!!! If a cam bearing falls out while installing a cam, u are using a bent cam and a BFH!!!!

Educate your friend that cam bearings are a press fit, and don't "fall" out. He must be confusing them with lifters (I hope).

I would poke fun at this but if I did I would be the first human in history that had a cam bearing fall out while doing a cam swap. Not possible I know, but thats my kinda luck.

would of the worst mechanics, and stupidest most full of **** people i know works at a dealership!!!

Yes a cam bearing can fall out, however it happens with low oil pressure and bearings that have already been spun, or an INPROPER install of a prior cam. Use a pen magnet for the lifters and be careful, the bearing will be fine.

I belive with the high milage motors you are risking lifters not staying up in the retainer cups.
I just use a couple small pieces of brake line and slide in the holes ot hold up the lifters, has always worked for me.
