Default MOTOR IS TICKING Ls6 HEAD STOCK BOTTOM

Ok i recently rebuilt my motor. Everything is stock and new except for the cam and valvetrain. The motor runs fine and it has oil pressure is at 60 during idle. I hear a ticking noise up on top coming out of the valvetrain. I was wondering since I went from 853 heads to 243 heads if that will affect the length of my pushrods? I thought LS6 motors and LS1 motors had the same length pushrods. I took off the valve covers and everything looks good. What is my next step? I already re-torqued the rocker arms to spec.

Nope...if I'm not mistaken, the valves on the LS6 are shorter or longer (not sure which) compared to the LS1. I would get a pushrod length checker and verify it.

Agreed, check your pushrod/preload to ensure that is not the source of your noise.

LS6 valves are longer to account for the LS6 cams smaller base circle. Check PR length, lifter preload, etc.

What cam shaft are you running? Some valvetrain noise is normal depending on the ramp rate of the cam lobes. A quick search for "sewing machine sound" should yield some videos for you to compare against the sound you are hearing.

I have a stock 99 cam thats why I thought it would be ok to use stock pushrods and valvetrain.

Gotcha. The way it was worded made it sound like you had an aftermarket cam. If your heads did come off an actual LS6 the the valves will be longer(as stated above), and you will need to adjust the pushrod length to preload the lifters correctly.

Sorry to confuse you. I adjust the pushrod preload just by changing the pushrods to the correct length?

They are both (ls1/ls6) 7.400

That being said, still check with a pushrod length checker.

Ok, I took the valvecovers off and on the driver side valve cover one of the rocker arms was hittin under the valve cover. Has any one seen this before?

Well got it running again and I dont think it was the rocker hitting the valve cover because it still ticks.
