Unhappy 5.3 Motor in F-Body. Need ADVICE!!!

Posting for a friend....

I have a 5.3L motor going into a 99 Camaro SS. Its completely stock, the internal mods are Ls6 CamShaft and Ls2 Springs. Everything is interchangable from a 5.7 to a 5.3, but the question was about the "crank reluctor wheel" (i think is what its called) is different and has a different pattern from the 5.7 and different size. Im worried it will not turn on at all because of the signal its sending through the crank sensor, but the source of the problem is the "crank reluctor wheel". If anybody has put a 5.3 motor (NOT JUST HEADS) to let me know if they changed this and the crankshaft. Its said that the crank is almost identical though. I dont want to install and for it not to turn on. I know it might run shitty until I get it tuned but I just want it to turn on. ANY advice will be appreciated. If somebody can pm me a response or to this cell # (214)-803-0154. or you can reply on here. Preferable the first two but any help is good. Thanks guys!!!

i did a 5.3l in an f-body, havn't started it. When i flash the ecm im going to put in the 5.3l tune. Unless its a new 58x wheel (grey sensor) it will work w the stock 24x (black sensor) ecm.

If it is a 58x reluctor wheel Lingenfelter has a box that converts it to the proper signal for the cars like ours that run the 24x.

It sounds like the 5.3 you found is a newer Gen 4 smallblock, and will need a conversion box to run with the Camaro's computer.

Do I have to change the reluctor wheel? Would you have to do all these modifications to an LQ9.

What year is the 5.3? If it is an 06 or older engine the reluctor wheel is the same as the LS1.

The reason for 5.3 in an F-body is because they are cheap. I'm doing the same thing. since I destroyed my 5.7. I am putting a 218/218 . 563 .563 114 lsa and comp 918s according to Mike the guy installing the engine its won't be any different tha the stock 5.7. OP let us know how this turns out.

If the 5.3 is a 99-06.5 you dont need a conversion box, because it has the same reluctor wheel as an ls1. Swap in the motor and it should start up. The 5.3 actually runs quite well in a light car compared to a hefty truck and its usually alot cheaper than the ls1.

Got a 5.3 here as well, but I started with a v6.

Using the truck PCM, but it was completely restructured to use the f car harness.
