Default Need to pull oil pan-What is the best way?

I am in the process of doing a cam, head and oil pump swap. I have everything apart and dropped the oil pump pick up bolt in the pan. I have been trying to get the bolt with a magnet but have not been successful.

I currently have the heads and front cover off-what is the easiest way to drop the pan to get the bolt out?I have the pan unbolted and can move it around, but need more room to get it off.

use a magnet attached to long metal tub,and feed it into the oil pan .move it from side to side and slowly pull it forward .or use a large magnet on the under side to move the bolt towards the front.

To pull the pan, you'll have to drop the K-Member..

well, in the bottom of these pans are baffles...if it went all the way to the bottom you might have to take the pan off. i had a friend do the same thing and was successful by using the big magnet trick to pull it back up since the pan is alum. if nothing works the k-member has 6 bolts total. loosen them almost all the way with support help and see if the pan will slip past. i think all you need is about 5 inches. good luck with it!!

Yep. Un-bolt the block from the k-member, cherry pick the engine, and drop the k-member 4 or 5 inches.

I have a buddy who dropped his pick up tube bolt also. He couldn't get it out so he got another bolt and left the old one in there. I don't recommend this but I know he put over 5,000 miles on his Trex cam GTO and that damn bolt is still in the pan.
