Default Cam for 5.3l camaro

Last year I pulled my v6 and put a 5.3 in. (mods and numbers in sig) I want to go faster(goal is a 12.99), so I was going to put an 02+ ls6 cam in in the next few weeks, and most pick up around 30hp. But everyone keeps telling me im wasting my time and that I should go bigger.

I was thinking about the TR 220 cam. The dyno on there site shows a 5.3l pickup getting just short of a 70hp boost. I assume thats due to the tiny cam the 5.3 gets from the factory.

Looking to get good highway milage and awesome drivabiliity as its my DD from may to nov.

Possible or should I go with something smaller like the ls6.

Give us a call when you get some free time, Matt can help you out on this one. He had a 5.3l camaro for a few years. We've done many 5.3l camshaft swaps but being in a Camaro it'll be a little bit different. I think we can help you with a custom grind that will meet your needs. We're also giving free valve seals kits with every purchase of single valve springs incase you decide to pair that camshaft up with a single spring!

If it's your DD,

and just street use, the XR-265HR is a great no hassle cam.

Not real sure on how big you want to go, I built a 5.3 camaro a few years ago, and my buddy dyno'd it again the other day and put down 376RWHP, tq was in the 360s. comp grind 228/230 .581 112. Its just all stock with cam swap and ls6 intake.

I would do something slightly different than the TR220, being that it is going into a camaro. While the TR220 would work great, I have a few custom cams in mind if you would like to go over them. Give me a call at the shop and I will be happy to discuss them with you!!!!

Im a workoholic and cant get to the phone most days, unless youd be open around 11pm EST.

What did you have in mind, the old man cam? That was my only other thought. I want this super drivable and dont want to loose to much if any mileage. But I need to see 12.99 this year.

I have an ls6 intake and 3600 stall going in as well.

Ive been looking at the old man cam, as well as the cheatr and mti stealth cams. Are these going to be too big for the 5.3?

Any info?
