Default What cam should I get with my stalled A4?

Okay so looking at getting a cam with my taxes. I'm looking at an MS3 but not sure my goal is around 400HP. I have bolt on LS1 A4, Lid, LT's, ORY, 3400 stall, 3.42 gears and also have a wet kit on the car.

I do not daily drive it but would still like to retain some driveablity on the street.

Also I know this has been beaten to death but what all do I need for the install I'm making a list. So far I have

Cam, Springs, Pushrods, Lifters, Gasket set, timing chain, and oil pump

With that size stall, I personally would keep the cam in the 220s. Like a tr224 or tr228.

Lol I just totally read that wrong I thought you put what size stall.

Yeah I just don't want to go to small and regret it. I want something that has good mid range as well I think the MS3 or MS4 is more top end.

Best advice I ever got on cam selection was this : Look around, do a lot of reading, see what numbers people are running with what cam/mods, and factor powerband and driving styles in and you will see a cam that keeps showing up for what you are looking for out of your car. The reason I suggested a 220s cam was because I had a tr-224 and 3200. And although it was an awesome street combo. It still had slight bog in the midrange. It needed more converter. With a 4k converter, its the nastiest I think this cam could ever be.

Problem with some of the bigger cams like MS3 + 4s is you have to spin your motor to 7k to get those huge gains. Just something to think about.

As posted by 01ssreda4, Small cams make great power, don't kid yourself.

What are you really gonna use the car for, then base your cam choice on that.

For an all around cam I would go with something along the lines of 231/237 600/600 on a 112LSA
Not small but not huge, I think youll be happy with something like that

Funny thing about getting combos right is someone shows up with a 224/4000 combo vs someone with a high 230s/3200. The smaller cam is gonna eat him up every time. I personally hang with M6s on the street with slightly bigger cams all day (with the 3200)

If you are looking for great all around cams, I would look at our TR224 or even the TR230/224. Both those cams make great overall, useable power on the street and maintain excellent street manners. If you wanted to go bigger than that, look at the TRak camshaft(231/234-112). We can always do a custom grind to meet any goal you are looking for. Give me a call at the shop, email me, or even PM me and we can discuss it further.

Now I have to disagree some on this. The man is spraying a wet shot. Hes got a 3400 stall. He is not gonna want to increase the stalls speed because he is liable to blow thru a higher stalled convertor. So I say MS4. That cam has enough midrange power to pull it off quite nicely and will have the top end as well. I believe the only problem he would have is trying to hook off the line.

Good point about the spray. In this case a 3400-3600 would be ideal...... The spray changes things......

I have a TS 224/224 .581/.581 with a 114 LSA I am gonna put in my DD. Also looking at a 3200-3600 stall, and then later plan to spray after I get time to do a tear down and check some internials (didnt own the car before 100k, so gonna be safe). From what I hear about my setup I am looking at, Ill be in the 400hp range or very close, but thats just what I am doing. Each has thier own wants and taste. You can ask everyone here all day and they will tell you what they have done or like, but it comes down to what you want to do and the one you choose. If you dont like it, you can always change it, and thats the fun part, figuring what works for you. looking at your list, the only other thing you will be missing is a GOOD tune after the cam, that will bring out the best of the cam.

ss3600 and a 230s cam with a nice split for the bottle...the cam is only a small part of the build...max out all the other mods and you will hit your goals...
