Default valley cover

I am converting a 5.3 to a carbed version for my 70 chevelle. On the center valley cover (below the intake) their are two black covers/plugs with one wire coming out of each. My question is what are these for and what do they do. None of the conversion info i have read addresses these or indicate they are used for anything.

They are knock sensors. They go into the harness to the PCM on the original fuel injected set up. You won't use them on your carbureted engine.
