Cam without long tubes?
I tried the search and read the stickies and didnt see anything regarding the topic. I have a Comp Cam XR281HR and PAC valve springs. Hoping to put it in my 05 CTS-V(LS6 for those who didnt know). I have a HSW wet kit that is about to be hooked up but am still on stock manifolds. I have been staying away from long tubes because total will run around 1750+ bucks just for headers and cats with cheap mufflers. What do I stand to gain from the cam, and what am i leaving on the table without longtubes? Longtubes will be done maybe next fall but was hoping to put the cam in and get some use out of it before then since i can have it dynotuned after the nitrous install. Specs on the cam are
LS1/LS6 XTREME RPM HIGH XR281HR
Rpm operating range 2200-7200
228/230 .571/.573 112lsa
Hydraulic roller

Your leaving a lot of HP on the table.
Agree, headers are a substantial expense. But they are almost a necessity with a cam of that size. The compliment each other quite well. For instance, by itself the cam may give you 20 HP. Headers might give you 15 HP. But, together they may give you a combined HP gain actually greater than the sum of the parts. Perhaps more than the 35 HP separate.
I know that sounds counter-intuitive, but I think you get the point. You also run into the dilemma of duplicating tuning sessions. The cam will require tuning. While headers by them self do not always require tuning, it might more sense to add headers first, then cam, then tune.
Though headers are expensive they are one of the most cost-effective modifications you can make. I would think over your decision.
Good luck.

thanks for the input, i am aware that the power will be left on the table i was just wondering about how much which you guys helped with. I know you have to pay to play but i just cant get over the cost of long tubes for the V, not like a set of brand new pacesetters for fbodies and y pipe for 500 lol but i knew that when i bought the V. I will think it over. thanks again

its not a done deal, i got a hell of a deal on the cam so its not gonna hurt my feelings if it sits for a year. im sure the nitrous will keep me happy for a little while plus the clutch wont mind not taking the extra beating. Just trying to get some input.
