Default Lost on 370 Build

Well,

This is something that I admittedly know nothing about. Everything I read is making my head spin due to so many different variations. Basically, I am building an iron 370 with 317 heads. The cam I am running is a Comp Cams 234 242 .598 .610 114lsa. I am running Patriot Gold Springs. Here is my question. The pushrods that were in the LS1 before with this cam were Comp Cam 7.300" .080", part# 7949. I am just lost as to whether or not this is the length that needs to go with motor setup or is it something only a pushrod length checker can tell me??

From everything I've read, most people go with a slightly longer length than stock with a cam swap. Thanks in advance for the help. This build is friggin stressing me out...but I am also over analyze everything.

First of all, relax. You don't need to worry about pushrod length - just measure - it's easy.

I know...I just fret the small stuff. I am having someone build this motor for me...what exactly needs to be measured? Only way to learn is to ask, right? Thanks for the help.

You need a pushrod length checker. They're simple and inexpensive. http://www.compcams.com/information/Products/Pushrods/

yeah man just be calm about it. if you start getting upset, that is when things go wrong and bad decisions made. you need to also check the tolerances on the lifters for "pre-load". example...usually ls7 lifters are pre-load of .060-.080. you might even get to use those 7.300 rods to start the motor then when you get oil pressure check it with the PR check tool stated above^^. this will tell exactly what you need. there are way too many ways you can get it wrong just by hearing what other people are using for their motors. I.E. heads milled, comprssd gasket thickness, lifters etc... make sure to check BOTH intake and exhaust. i had to run 7.325 on my intake and 7.350 on my exhaust because of the difference between the two. good luck!

Really good info! I appreciate the help. I would be amazed at how many motors out there are running something that gets them by, but may not be the correct one. Thanks again...time to get this thing done!
