Default HD timing set for LQ9

Need a recommendation for a timing chain set. Building a LQ9(900+hp turbo motor). I would rather run a single for the sake of not shimming the pump unless that would be ureasonable at this level. I dont see an issue with it though. Open to ideas. Thanks

Is the double a PITA with having to shim the oil pump?

In a single chain, there is the IRL chain (about 7 left) and the C5R chain. We do carry another IWIS chain that works with stock gears and is half the price of the C5R chain. Made by the same company, just not the exact specs as the C5R chain. They will give you the easiest install, can be used with stock gears or aftermarket, and are the best bet. The doubles, we carry the Rollmaster timing sets, which use the IWIS double chains.

If I go with the C5R chain are there aftermarket gears available and if so do you recommend them? Thanks

You really cannot get the "gears" themselves separate. It is a task to do so. I would just use the C5R Chain with the stock gears.

MEL10296 best oil pump i think

http://www.byunspeed.com/product_inf...oducts_id=2150

Best chain i thought at the time, feels high quilty but was looser then i thought after installed. Have had no problems with them.

after much research these were the two best i liked a few years ago.

One more thing, If I go with the C5R chain I would rather not reuse the 70k gears from my LQ9. Who makes a single row set with billet gears where I can toss the supplied chain in favor of the C5R? Still kicking around the idea of a double although I dont really see a benefit over the single.

Just a warning, I went double roller and Melling hd oil pump. Not only did I have to grind on the front cover, but even with the shims the chain touched the pump so I had to do alittle grinding on the back of the pump too.
Don't get me wrong, they work great and carry 50psi at idle, 80psi higher up in the rpms, but I did have to do alittle grinding to make room for them.

The melling pumps are physically larger, hence the need for grinding.

I guess i got real lucky as with the melling pump and cran gears it all fit perfect no grinding needed. 65psi oil at idle stock bottom end.

What got my attention on the crane setup is its adjustalbe on the top sprocket while on the car, so it does not need to come off to adjust.
That means the oil pump can stay on if adjustment is needed later, the oil pickup tube is no fun to get back on while in the car so big bonus their.

Has needle bearing on the back where it rides on the cam reatiner plate.
Also it has a bunch of bolts to hold true timeing not just a few like most others. Its adjustable down to less then a degree not just 2 or 4 degree settings.

I like the melling pump because its a true aftermarket, not just another ported stock unit.

on first start up cold it jumps to like 75 psi for a minute then comes down to 65, i guess after its real nice and hot it hangs at 60. At full throttle i dont know havnt been able to look down the whole time. but probbley what ever the reliefe spring is set at. stock 80k bearings with arp rod bolts.

I thought a good while ago katech made one of the best single chains. I remmber reading many post about where they were produced, many chains are all the same while some are made in germany, us, china ect. A search will find somo threads.

The Katech chains are the C5R chains produced by the German company IWIS. Most of the better chains are foreign made including France and Germany.
