Default Polishing crankshaft journals

Will polishing the crankshaft journals reduce the clearances enough to require the use of oversize rather then standard size bearings ?

If you're talking .010" oversize, forget about it. For about .001", you can, but it's not a good idea. It takes FOREVER and the journals wouldn't be nearly as straight and round as it would be if a professional ground them.

I plan on having a shop do the polishing. just needed to know what size bearings to order to put it back together. crankshaft journals are all within spec. I did not plan on turning it down .010"
thanks for the advice guys

if the crank is in good condition now your machine shop will only take a couple tenths at most. that miniscule difference wont cause a need for oversize bearings

Oh, I totally misunderstood the question!

I agree with the above, when done correctly, polishing is only going to take of an insignificant amount of material.

Also, a "tenth" is how a machinist refers to .0001".
