Default What can I expect in lower altitude?

Hi everyone. I owned a 99 Trans am with ram air hood. this this the mods I done to her. ms3 cam, cnc ported heads(243s), 2800 stall vigilante torque converter. 3.73 gears, 42lb injectors, mac headers, Y pipe, ls6 intake, 3 inch exhaust straight pipe and a good tune. I haven't dyno it yet. Also, O done most of the suspension upgrades exempt for the torque arm. Right now I have street tires. I just moved to Dallas from Fort Collins, Colorado so I want to know what I can expect from my car here?

You will notice a differance in power. There are guys on here that almost have the same mods/setup as I do and make 60-80 more rear wheel HP than me. They are at sea level and I have to deal with my tuner at 5,600 ft and I drive my car in the 6,000-7,500 ft range. I would have the car retuned in texas because if you had it tuned in CO they probly took fuel out of your tables and you'll be on the lean side. Enjoy that dence air, I wish I could.

DA's much lower than your ~5000 ft altitude.

yes def have your car retuned. dallas is a good place for making power, nice dry air, unlike here in the houston area where its ALWAYS humid. the only downside being the heat during the summer...hope you can take it

I hope it gets to be faster. Its sucks i have to tune it again. Im going back in may to get the car. I only got to drive it 3 times last year then it got cold and snow came to us. One of those times I raced a suzuki 675 or someting like that, and I was ahead of him all the time. I was with my wife that day. too bad I dont have a video to proof it. Thanks.

well you better watch yourself in friendswood, i got a ticket for no cats and dumps. and i have to drive through there everyday to see my gf. so yeah be careful, cops always have an itchy trigger finger for catching street racers. even if you aren't doing anything illegal they can still **** with you. i am living proof of that. but really there are a few cities to watch yourself in down here; friendswood, webster, pasadena, la porte and of course houtson. ive never had a problem with galveston cops, nor any of the county guys.

the camaro sounds nice. I like it sounds but not the price for the exhaust. Well I hope I get to take the car to Houston in a couple months. I want to take it to the track here in Dallas to see how she does. Thanks man.

On a Na car you should pick up about a full sec in the 1/4 mile going from Co to sealevel. Boosted cars will pick up about a half sec.

A full second in the 1/4 mile?! thats nice to know. I dont know how fast my car is in the 1/4 mile but my friend has a 2002 Trans am with the same set up as me but without the ported heads and slicks and his best time was 12.7 at bandimere. So if I get slicks I'll be in the high 11s low 12s here in Dallas?

NHRA altitude correction factor for bandimere is ET X.9276, and MPH x 1.077. Dallas is still not quite sealevel, you will need to go to houston for o'. Your buddies car would prob be in the 11's for sure down there. We have a mild NA 406CI 1970 Camaro full weight street car, went 11.50~60's, 113~114mph at bandimere. With just a jet change, and 3.73's insted of 4.10's it went 10.60's, 123MPH at sacramento raceway 60' elv.

Thats good news for me. Now I cant wait to get my car down here. But first I have to get it tuned again and some good drag radials before I can take it to the tracks. It seems you know alot about cars, well more than me so i was thinking if its better to get a higher torque converter? right now I have a vigilante 2800 stall. Those are very good times for the camaro. I dont plan to make my car that fast right now. Last summer i only drove it like three times. I used to work alot.

It's ran pretty good for a flat tappet SB with little edelbrock 170cc heads lol. The new AFR headed NA505 I just built for the car runs high 9's at altitude, and hasn't made it to low elevation yet. Car is a little bit nasty now, but still drives to the track on pump gas

As far as your converter, It depends on how high it flashes, and multiplys tq. You will prob 60' better with something that flashes ~4500RPM.

For high altitude I like to use the smallest port that flows the most air, and a high lift, short to medium dur cam. Also compression is your friend.
