I want to know how it idles, what is the rpm power range, what kind of power does this cam make, also how has it been on your valve springs.

Yeah, that looks like a killer cam. Have you broken any valve springs with that cam and if yes, what springs broke. What springs are you running now, the ISKY single TOOL ROOM cam that MMT is sky high on and looks like a real battle tested spring?

Also, what heads you running and what dyno numbers does that bad boy crank out?

THANKS!!!

I ran that cam about a year ago. Used 918's with it when the stock heads were on. Fantastic upper rpm performer. Power comes on at around 3500, and stays there till about 6550 or so. Made 403 with stock 241 heads, added some stage 2+ TEA heads, and with better tuning made 449rwhp through a Moser 9".

GREAT cam. Made 417 RWHP with a 6 speed and STOCK heads. Ran best 7.2 @ 94 MPH in 1/8th with a fairly slow 60 foot of 1.6 (damn 6 speeds!! LOL) Can does need tuning to idle well but it is VERY strong from 3500-6800. Took it on Power Tour this year.

First off I had comp custom grind the cam on an xer lobe. F1 is typically a lunati grind. I was running 5.3 heads with 2.02/1.55's unported w/ comp 918's and titanium retainers. I never broke any springs in 30k...same springs. I was putting 438rwhp 418tq down through the stock 3.42 rearend and M6. It pulls extremely hard up around 3000 all the way to 7kl It is a beast. Absolutely NO tuning was used to achieve these #'s. With some tuning I could've picked up another 10-15hp i'm sure. Idle was awsome...just loped like a sob. I constantly had people at stoplights rolling the windows down and commenting on the sound There should be no question about whether or not to run this cam in a daily driver. The only thing you should think about is whether or not you ever want to spray it. The reverse slpit cams are not the most nitrous friendly cams, so I wouldn't recommend it without serious dyno tuning and programming. Up until a little over a month ago I never had any trouble with my setup....then i broke 2 rods. I guess that's what 94k on the odometer will do to ya

TAspeed, how many miles did you have on the cam when you had your engine go BOOM? Basically, Im askin if put 418 ft/lbs to the ground had anything to do with that. Thanks

I'm running the F1. I have never dynoed the car, only raced it. At 3500, it has run a 7.20@95. On those runs, the converter and/or tranny were screwed up. I could only stall to about 1800 to launch....that is with a PT4400.

In a month or two, the cam is coming out, I'll be selling it, so let me know if you are interested.

I had 34k on the cam when it came apart. It had nothing to do with the tq...tq is relative to many things. It had more to do with the fact that at 64k I missed a 3-4 shift and bent a valve and a couple of PR's. One was so bad in fact, I had to take the head off to get it out. Well, to get to the point that was the #6 rod and cylinder. i replaced all the rod bearings inspected everything else and slapped the bitch back together suspecting possible rod damage on #6....was just a hunch i had from the damage to the valve and pr. I've seen stretched and out of round rods from lesser damage incidents. Anyway, upon blowing the motor i have inspected everything in theh motor. The only problem is the #6 bearing was completely brass on the top side of the rod. All of the other bearings looked virtually unused. I will notoe that I Mic'd everthing and checked all clearances when I put it back together, as i do anytime I build any motor, and ALL clearances were as close to perfect as I could've wanted. Rods were all .002-.003. I will say that an out of round rod is very difficult to find without having a machinist check them.

So in conclusion....418tq really had nothing to do with the demise of the motor. The ultimate cause was Hardware Failure, which was not really detectable and is something that could've happened with a stock motor. Now had you asked me did my 11.5-11.75:1 compression stand to be a factor...i would say yes...It put the added stress on the rod that ultimately failed

THE END
