Talking H/C Questions just a few

Im going to be getting some PP stage II heads pretty soon just wondering if i should get 5.3s or 5.7s, how much do the 5.3s raise compression?
Also too should i get the heads milled as well? if so what length pushrods should i get?

Im also going to match these with a TR 230/224 or the TR 227/224? Anyone have any pros/ cons of either for this combo?

Thanks for the wisdom in advance
Wade

Are you dead set on PP heads or are you open to alternatives?

I would go with the PP 5.3's. I just put them on (see my other thread on the specs) The CR will be 10.7. You should'nt have any P/V issues with those cams. U can use stock length pushrods if I'm not mistaken. Good luck!!

5.3's over 5.7's IMO

Depending on how much is milled off the heads a 7.35 push rod might be required.

I know Texas Speed has the 231/237 cam. I know that cam works great with the PP heads.

The TEA 5.3 Stage 1.5's are an excellent alternative and with hand touch ups more potential. The TEA's also make excellent torque. With a customer 224 cam that's very driveable, my set up with the oldest version of TEA head makes 390rwtq at 4,000 rpm. Peak numbers are in sig.

Maybe Damian can comment about his new TEA 1.5's and Futral cam that make a good bit more low end torque than my set up does.

I suggest talking with Brian at TEA before making your final decision on which heads to purchase.

With good tuning you should be able to pretty much run any cam you want.

Are you planning to run the LS6 intake or upgrade later to an LSX intake?

The LSX might not need a reverse split cam like the LS6 sometimes does.

Call TSP and talk to Jason. I think they have two guys there locally that are making over 440rwhp with the 5.3's and a TSP231/237 cam. They can also fix you up with tuning, either inhouse or via mailorder. They did my tune thru the mail and it has worked out really well. There really isn't that much of a performance difference between the 5.3's and 5.7's. If you are buying, might as well get the 5.3's for a little extra compression, they cost the same money as the 5.7's. Also, I'm pretty sure TSP has a killer "combo" package that gets you the heads, cam, and other must have items for your install for a damn good price.

It was a 230/230/112 XE-R Comp. Testing was through the muffler, no UD pulley, stock TB. We are testing a 224/224/112 this week. We also did another set with FLP headers, cats, 12 bolt and it put down 430 rwhp. Again, no UD pulley, stock TB. A 2002 A4 did 421 unlocked. All with the 230 cam, stock CR.
