Default should I go with a stroker or stick with stock cubes?

I have a delema..... Not sure if I should spend the $$$ to go to a stroker or stay with the stock displacement.

I have a stock bottom end with 224/228/113 .567/.571 Cartek cam and Cartek stage II X heads, ported LS6 intake. I have all the boltons.

I will go with a bigger cam, and was told that my heads need to be worked a little more.

I am debating on weather I want to go with the 382 all bore or stay with the stock displacement and parts I have now......not spend more money on the heads and new cam.

I haven't been able to fine enough info on power gains with a stroker.

The car gets auto crossed and road raced a lot and some trips to the drag strip.

thanks
Brad

It just depends on how much you want to pay. A 382 will make way more torque and will kill a h/c car. All about $$.

Rotating assy will be cheap if the deal I have going works out.

The big question I have is how necessary is it to work my heads beyond what they are now for the 382. From what I understand they should be ported differently for the 382 vs the stock cubes. Anybody????

An all bore motor could be benefitted by a STAGE 3 heads where valve sizes are increased to 2.055 1.60 or even 2.08 1.60. Also you might be benefitted by more induction capability with bigger throttle body and LSX manifold. My gues would be you could pick up around 30HP and maybe 50Torque with an all bore vs. a 346

You can run your H/C that you have now on a 382,it just won't give you a 100% out of the 382 but still put down more power than the 346.

How much do you think I could gain by altering my heads with the 382 ALL STROKE? I do see how the bigger valves would benefit me on an ALL BORE 382, but I a sticking with the stock bore. thanks

With the 382 stroker (4 inch stroke) you will gain about 30-40RWHP and similar torque depending on a couple of things

1) cam selection. You can go as big as 236-240/240-244 112-114LSA on a 383 no problem

2) intake and exhaust CC's and flow numbers. Depending on what they are now you may be able to pick up a bit of power with additional porting. Valve size can stay the same. You could easily leave the heads alone (if the flow numbers are good, which they should be) and just manipulate your cam choice.

Best of luck,
Chris
