Default Newb to cam swap... Just finalization queastions before ordering...

I have a budy who has a cam ,PatG cam (219/227 .600ish lift) installed 900 miles ago, and pushrods that he is selling due to him wanting bigger... The cam is small but its kinda in my neighborhood of a DD cam.. So i have the cam and rods already, i have an ls6 oil pump already and im ordering an ls2 timing chain.. I found a gasket kit (http://www.thunderracing.com/catalog...vid=3&pcid=157).. Its the 85.99 under thunder racing gasket packages.. Good package with everything i will need? Next question is valve springs... I was told either comp 918 beehives or Pac 1518 springs.. Good springs for the cam?

My real question is about the valve springs... do i need to by new seats and retainers... i read the cam guide sticky and another sticky on here about it and im still not quite sure if i just need new springs or if i need an entire valve spring kit....

Any info will help rather it be criticism or helpful or just from experience...

Ive run an Comp LSR cam that was 219/227 .607/.617ish in a LQ4 6.0L with CNC heads and FAST intake, Dynatech headers, etc and it made 500fwhp.

Ran Comp 918s on it, no problem, I beat the hell out of it too. Most LS spring seats and valve seals are the GM combination version, you should be able to shim your springs, and put on the used (or new) GM valve seals/spring seats on the 918s. Also any valve spring should be setup correctly.

So some comp 918's will work just fine and some OEM GM seats and valve seals will do the job?

Most people don't replace valve seats/seals during a cam swap (unless they get dual springs that come with new seats/seals/retainers, etc). Just pop off your old springs, replace with upgraded beehives, and use the stock retainers. Pretty easy, just takes some time. Also, some don't replace the valve cover gaskets either, but depending on how many miles you have, it could be cheap insurance (Texas Speed sells a cam swap gasket kit that doesn't include valve cover gaskets, it's around $50).

Also, don't forget about random stuff like oil and coolant.
