Changed oil(M1 5w-30) now has tick. Video inside.
Bought the car a month ago and decided to change the oil today. The previous owner told me he used synthetic so I went ahead and replaced the oil with Mobile 1 synthetic 5w30 and now notice a very faint tick at idle and gets a bit louder until 1500-1800 rpm then goes away. Now the car has always ticked pretty loud at cold start up and would go away once it was warm which is normal from what I have read. Could changing oil cause a tick to become present at operating temp? The car runs great but would like some piece of mind. Thanks

when you buy an used car you are also buying everything that comes with it. Cars specially performance cars tends to get the **** beat out of them and once the faintest thing that might be trouble if a person can get rid of it before they have to spends money on them then their problem just became your problem.

He probably ran some heavy stuff in there prior to sale to quiet it down. Maybe not knowingly though. So I am not saying you got ripped. Are you sure about those rwhp/rwtq numbers? You have a ridiculous amount of torque for having a few bolt ons and no long tubes and cam.

When I checked the oil after I purchased it-it was very thin like a synthetic. I called a local engine builder he said just to run a non synthectic if that doesn't fix it you have a bad lifter or bent push rod.

No cam or anythng just the mods listed on my sig. I have been reading seems a few others had this problem. I am wondering if I should just change the oil again and use a diffrent weight.

I would atleast pull the valve covers and look around.
I still am curious how you have such retarded amounts of torque!?!!!

Most of these LS cars were born with PS. Both of mine had it til I went forged on my Z28. You get a big enough cam with some positive overlap and loud exhaust, you forget that you have the problem. lol. Its not gonna die on you because of that. BTW how many miles are on this motor/car/chasis?

Yeah your safe. I would find out what oil that guy was running if it is possible and see if you can run that and make the sound disappear. In the meantime don't put any lucas additives or anything like that in your oil. Not knowing what kind of detergents are already in Lucas additive it may be an unhealthy combo when added to any oil. Depending on detergent levels though.
Now would be a good time to seafoam that engine though!
