Default Oil Pressure seems low

I just finished doing a cam swap on my 2000 ss with 40k on it, a lot of the parts that i purchased were used. I put in a slp oil pump that had low miles on it and the oil pressure seems too low to me. It made 30lbs when i was cranking at first and it holds 40 at a warm idle which seems ok but the pressure does not build fast if i hold it at like 3500 or so it might make 50 and when i run it through the gears it does not get over 60lbs on the gauge. The needle does seem "jerky" unlike before but it used to make more pressure with the stock pump. I am running 5w30 royal purple just like before the swap as well, and i put a new o ring on the pick up too. Any ideas on what i should try first?

Thanks

your gonna need to make sure the o ring is not pinched or improperly installed even though you replaced it.

i used a fel pro one that came with the timing cover set, should i get one from GM instead? Would it be worth the effort to hook up a manual gauge?

Thanks for the input

it should have came with 2 what color did you use?
Gm or Felpro doesnt matter.
if the o ring was twisted or cocked when it went in you will have issues, or if you used the wrong color one. (truck pick up vs a car pickup ring.)

i am not sure now that you mention it are they a different thickness? I dont think it is pinched but maybe i installed the wrong one, I put it on the pick up tube and it bolted together smooth.

Thanks

It should be the blue one, or if you got 2 (one not being blue) it will be the thicker o ring of the 2.

yeah i would go ahead and just make sure you've got the right color one. that dang o ring seems to cause so many problems. i re-used mine with 70K and seems to be fine with oil pressure. guess its luck of the draw.

Yeah i wish i would have just left the old one on, t did not cross my mind that there were different widths and they were all close in diameter. It looks like I will have to take it apart for piece of mind now too even if that is not that case of my problem.

if you did use the wrong one lube the new one up really well and center the pickup and use upward force and it should slide in nice and firm.
