Question Which Cometic head gaskets for basically stock LS1?

Which Cometic head gaskets do I need for my basically stock LS1 with AFR205's ?

BTW, I'm not looking to bump up/lower the compression ratio.

Is pt#C5475-51 what I need ?

Hell, that's a lot of money to spend if you're not even going to take advantage of the thinner gaskets cometic offers, plus you have to worry about having a PERFECTLY smooth block. Have you thought about just going with something like what SDPC offers:

http://sdparts.com/details/gm-perfor...parts/12498544

They're only around $29 for a set too!

^ what he said. I got the cometics because I can run the .040 gasket for a bump in compression.

So are you saying even if I do everything correct installing my new AFR heads the Cometic head gaskets might not seal ?

Good info thanks!

^Agreed - big waste of money IMO to go with a stock thickness gasket when you could just buy GM MLS ones for over $100 less. I would go with the cometic 0.040" with your 205's. That's what I did and with the heads milled to 62cc I'm around 11.4:1 compression. I burn 91 octane with no problems.

I also use .04 Cometics with my 205s. No problems with them since they were installed in 2005.

I have a new set that I bought before I knew that I needed to increase the bore size to 4.130 when Tony ported my heads. The new Cometics set is a 3.910 bore at .040. I'll sell them for $100 + shipping if anyone is interested.

Yeah man don't spend the big dough on Cometics if your not gonna get the added benefit of a tighter quench and slightly more compression.

As far as sealing goes I never had a problem with my Cometics at all. I plan to use them on my new build as well.

If your set up is pretty mild going with stock graphite head gaskets is a good option. That's what your car came with and they seal very well. MLS do require a very clean and flat surface but the graphite is a lot more forgiving. It takes more work to clean the graphite off the block when you swap but it's not a big deal.

Might consider the FelPro gaskets that AFR recommends.

Why did you go to a larger bore size (4.130) just because they where ported?

Because Tony opens up the chambers when he does the additional work
