Default General Cam Theory Question

I've been doing cam research for several months and am finally ready to buy one and have pretty much made up my mind, but i have a general question that relates to most of the popular medium cams (224, 228, 233/239, torquers, ms3/4, etc). I constantly hear people talk about which is better bottom end vs top end vs midrange and how this one has more power overall but less under the curve power and blah blah blah.

My question is, if you were to choose a torquer v2 vs v3 or a 224r vs 228r or a 233/239 vs 228r or whatever combination of "close" cams, are you LOSING anything over the stock cam or are you just gaining less?

This might be a stupid question but it's really hard to find the dyno graph for a car identical to your own in order to compare.

To clarify, if i have a stock cam and heads with most bolt ons, and i choose a torquer v2 or v3, am i going to lose any power in any rpm range, or is it just that one gains more than the other in certain ranges?

The reason i ask is that i don't want to lose any low end power for street driving, but everyone says how the torquer cams are not as good low end as a 224 or 228 would be.

So help me out...please...much obliged y'all.

From my understanding with the torquer v2 v3 cams it looks like between 1-2K you will be losing some torque. 2-3K is about the same as stock, and 3K and up is when your going to feel the cam. As with the 224/228cams it looks like from 2K and up you should be having and increase in power over stock, im not 100% sure but I think someone else will chime in for yeah.

With your setup you won't be able to tell much difference in the lower rpm range. Your Vigilante 3600 which probally stalls close to 3800 now will stall higher because of the increased power. So when you kick it your gonna stall right into a TV2s power range and be gone! Now around town you already know that you can give it a little gas and stall at say 3000 and let the convertor will pull you thru the gears or you can give it the gas and make it hollar 2nd. TV2s that are tuned right have a nice fat flat torque curve.

That Vig 3600 is probaly stalling close to 4k since they are known to be a bid underrated. Since when you hop on the gas and the converter flashes to ~4k, I wouldn't hesistate to run one of the larger Torquer cams. My cam doesn't really kick in till 3,500rpm but since I have a 4,000 stall it does me really well since it puts me right in my powerband. The only time I'm driving around less than 2,500-3,000 rpm is when the car locks up into OD and with a good tune the car should putt along just fine.

Thanks folks, you're all making me feel a bit better about my choice. I was really worried about getting scared and putting a smaller cam in and then going bigger in a couple months when I get tired of it.

I am interested in pretty much all the cams stated above in a m6 car if you wanting to keep your power band 2500-6400 what do you all think would work the best out of those cams? I have been on the fence for a bit now between going with a tr224 , 228r , and the Tv2. Is the power going to hit that much different between these three cams? Thanks for any info

If you have a Vig 3600, IMO, you should not go with anything less then a TR228.

At lockup under 2K I feel like I lost nothing over my stock cam. I have a 230/234 111+2 From 3K on this cam runs away from a stocker. It feels stronger down low than the TV2 I drove because it has a tighter LSA and an XFI intake lobe as opposed to the TV2 X-ER lobe. BTW the duration on these two cams are VERY close as I am sure you know.....

And yes a 224 will make more bottom but that is what I have an SS3600 for
