Default Advantages of 5.3 heads?

I've bought a complete 5.3 from a 98 silverado. It has 2500 miles on it and a cracked ring. What are the benifets of using these over the LS1 heads that are already on my SS. I plan on getting them ported and polished and I'm going to run an X1 cam.

advantage is there smaller combustion chamber whichs yields a higher compression 10:7 if i recall. the flow the same as ls1 heads. you'll want the 5.3's outfitted with bigger valves though since they come stock with 1.89 on the intake and i forgot the exhuast.

Gives a higher compression ratio of 10.8-1 without having to mill the heads down and lose piston to valve clearance. Definately need to to be ported with some bigger valves.

I was told it was a 98 but your right I dont think the silverado got the 5.3 till 99. To big deal though. Anyway now that I've got these where's a good place to send them off to get bigger valves and be ported and polished.

You can buy stock 5.3's for 300.00 or less on ebay. The smaller valve size would really limit the engine. If you dont plan on porting and increasing the valve size then forget using them. The extra compression would never make up for the crappy intake flow.

Doesn't the extra comp cause knock retard. You would think that you would need to take some timing out if you run the 5.3's.

I guess any of the head guys would take them as cores. Absolute Speed, TEA, Patroit, JPR. All sponsers >>>>> But my personal opinion is its hard to beat the LS6 style head deal that Patroit does. You just gotta call them all and make a decision.
