Default some questions about changing pushrods

So today my brother and a buddy of mine took the pushrods out of my motor while i was at work (motor still in car and connected to tranny, 3rd-2nd caused some bent pushrods).... I got to thinking.... was the motor suppose to be set at TDC before unbolting the rocker arms and taking out the pushrod? or can you just pretty much unbolt the rockers and pull the rods out?

when putting the rods back in... is there something else we're suppose to do besides just dropping them in and torquing the bolts to 22 ft/lbs? like a valve adjustment or something along those lines?

When I had my heads P&P I just took everything off, then put the heads back on, dropped in the push rods and put the rockers back on. As simple as that, well at least I havent had any problems.

On a stock head with stock pushrods all you have to do is drop the pushrod in and torque your rocker rack down. there are no other adjustments unless you are running adjustable rockers.

Here is the GM procedure. Everyone seems to shortcut it, but it is done this way for a reason. Removal is the opposite of installation, i.e., don't unload a compressed valve spring with the rocker bolt.
